171. Mentoring The Trafficked with Audrey Hood from Allies Inc.

According to the US Department of Homeland Security, human trafficking generated an estimated $150 billion in profits globally.  An estimated 25 million people are victimized by traffickers; 20% of whom are trafficked into the commercial sex industry.  Law enforcement does a lot to find and prosecute these traffickers, but what happens to the victims?  Trafficking results in an intense trauma for the victim that not a lot of people are adequately prepared to help with.  Allies Inc, however, has developed mentoring programs to help victims of trafficking.  Audrey Hood, the Program Director at Allies Inc joins John this week to talk through the challenges of mentoring when it comes to high levels of trauma, how Allies trains and supports their mentors, and how they are making an impact in helping victims of trafficking as they begin to heal from their experiences.
